Vietnam Peace Concert

I got this news from ABC Radio Australia news 12/07/2004 :

Vietnam peace concert rescheduled

Organizers of a United Nations-backed peace concert due to have been held in Vietnam in June but cancelled for technical reasons, say they now hope it will take place in September in Ho Chi Minh City.
The World Peace Music Awards are intended to honor artists who have campaigned against war and contributed to global peace.
The concert producer, Matt Taylor, says organizers are re-applying for the permits necessary to hold the show in Ho Chi Minh City on 25 September.
Performers, including Lionel Richie, Gloria Gaynor and Jon Secada, are scheduled to perform at the concert.

Jon will be back in Theatre with a professional team including Tim Rice(Lion King) and Andrew Lloyd Weber (Phantom Of The Opera). Taken from the last 13 chapters of the Book of Genesis in the Bible, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat tells the story of Joseph’s rise to power. Joseph, Jacob’s favorite son, is given a "coat of many colors" by his father, which infuriates his 11 brothers, who already despise him for being favored. When Joseph sees in a dream that his family will bow down to him, it’s the last straw, and his brothers sell him into slavery in Egypt. His gift of dream interpretation comes to the attention of the Pharaoh and eventually leads to his reconciliation with his family. This flamboyant biblical joyride was the first musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice and combines elements of pop, country, calypso and rock in the exhilarating score.

   Well the show went on even in the BLIZZARD!!! We left 4 hours ahead just incase it was a tuff ride and it should have taken us 30 minutes! it wasn't bad it took 2 hours!
   The show was great ! need I say more! JON was sooooooooooooo excited to see us-he came out on stage and pointed directly to us and gave thumbs up! it didn't hurt that we were front row center lolool .I have to say he did cater the show to us the whole time he looked
,smiled, threw kissed ,winked and sang directly to us!!!!! WHO CARED THERE WAS A BLIZZARD ---------- the show was suppose to be at least 3/4 of the way sold but due to the weather MAYBE 2-300 people showed up...but we all sang and gave love back!
After the show we were with him back stage for about an hour were we talked and took pictures.
   I yelled at him for his official site that stinks and i told Jackie we went on her site to see the full tour-JON turned to me and said!!! IF IT WASN'T FOR BEHNAM KEEPING UP THINGS FOR ME I WOULDN'T EVEN KNOW WERE I AM---- HE SAID HE STILL GOES ON AND TO SEE WERE HE IS GOING NEXT! he sends his love and thanx to the site and all and hopes to see

* 'Cabaret' run extended until end of year!!!
On October2, Todd Haimes, artistic director of the Roundabout Theatre Company, said that The long-running musical revival, which was scheduled to fold Nov. 2 at Studio 54, will now run at least until the end of the year. Haimes attributed the extension to a spike in ticket sales after it was announced that Adam Pascal would join the cast of the Kander and Ebb musical on Oct. 17. Pascal, who starred in the original Broadway productions of "Rent" and "Aida," will portray the show's lascivious master of ceremonies. Mensaje fest puts the focus on Spanish food and culture (By Maria Montoya-Staff writer )

The 22nd annual Mensaje Spanish Festival expects to lure 30,000-plus locals to Zephyr Stadium with music, dancers, carnival rides, cultural activities and lots of international food.
Artists include Jon Secada, Carolina Lao, Shalim, Los Babies, Luna Sol and Los Aztecas, Luna Sol, Boys' Choir of Getsemani, Los Sagitarios, Priscilla Aguilar. Throughout the weekend there will also be several performances by dancers and appearances made by Charytin of Escandalo TV and Barbara Bermudo of Primer Impacto.
All of the musicians and artists volunteer their services, something that after 22 years still amazes fest director Maria Jose Bermudez.

\Secada, Torres coming for Latin fiesta

Boca Raton is a Spanish phrase. It means "Mouth of the Rat." Some historians trace the name to the shape of the inlet, which centuries ago opened to the sea north of Spanish River Park.Others say it was a maritime term of endearment for any area that harbored pirates. Boca has certainly had its share of pirates, both seafaring and more recently landlubbing, but the city also has a Hispanic heritage based upon Addison Mizner's vision of 19th-century Spain, and a Hispanic population that is growing rapidly. So it's fair to say that Boca deserves some Hispanic entertainment. And who better to provide it than two Grammy winners, singer Jon Secada and jazz flutist Nestor Torres?

Their Oct. 4 concert at the Mizner Park Amphitheatre is the highlight of "Celebrating Latin Culture -- Boca 2003," a three-day fiesta that will kick off Hispanic Cultural Heritage Month in Palm Beach County.
The concert is just one of many events planned for the weekend by theCenter for the Arts at Mizner Park and the Hispanic Chamber of Palm Beach County.
Though a frequent visitor to Palm Beach County, the busy Torres has never played at Mizner Park. After the Boca show he will perform with the Charleston, S.C., symphony and then tour Japan. Secada is back on Broadway, drawing raves as the emcee in Cabaret. Jon, in fact, will fly down specially for the Boca show and then return for what is expected to be an extended run. Tito Puente Tribute concert

Information : Ruben Blades will headline an all-star lineup at "Viva Puente!" -- a benefit concert honoring late Latin jazz icon Tito Puente -- at New York's Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center on April 21, organizers said.

The event will take place one day after the 80th anniversary of Puente's birth. He died in 2000.

Others who will perform Puente songs include Jon Secada , Carolina, Oskar Cartaya, Sheila E., Luis Enrique, Grupomania, Giovanni Hidalgo, Melina Leon, Ednita Nazario, Tito Puente Jr., Domingo Quinonez, Richie Ray & Bobby Cruz, Roberto Roena, Hilton Ruiz, Dave Valentin, Def Jam Poetry's Mayda del Valle & Lemon and Andy Montanez.

Cucco Pena will conduct the orchestra. He wrote a special song which the musicians will sing at the finale. Jimmy Smits will host. The concert tribute kicks off a nationwide tribute tour, all of which will benefit such institutions as the Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Arts, Ballet Hispanico of New York, Side Street Kids of the Bronx, and the Tito Puente Scholarship for Latino Outreach at the Hackley School.
A taped broadcast of the concert is scheduled to air on New York's local NBC affiliate a few weeks after the event, and may also appear on NBC-owned Telemundo and Bravo at later dates.

I would love to write a review but I am terrible at writing. The show was awesome, Jon did a GREAT rendition of "Oye Como Va". He was sitting just a couple of rows in front of us and I could see him moving to the music, He seemed to really be enjoying the show. I didn't get much of a chance to talk to him, I complimented him on his performance, I sometimes get a little shy around him...It is sometimes a weird feeling standing so close talking to someone I admire so much!!

Well .. living in Vegas I of course went to the last date for the Colors of Christmas tour ... which ironically was held after Christmas.
I did not take any pictures .. but Jon gave a great performance .. and sounded incredible. The first half of the show included Christmas Songs by all performers .. and the second half of the show was more about each performers hit songs including Jon's.
They did wind up closing with "I'm Free" by Jon with everyone singing in the end .. along with "Let there be Peace on Earth"
Jon appeared to be the crowds favorite performer that night .. Everyone wound up shaking a few peoples hands on his way off the stage but only Jon got cornered to have his picture taken with a few fans as well as signing.
Being the nice guy he is .. he tried to accommodate as many people as he could before having to leave the stage .. having to leave a crowd of people behind.
Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a very Happy and safe New Year .. and may this year be a prosperous one for all of us .. including Jon

I caught the Color of Christmas concert in Philly. It was basically the same performance. However, Jon did not interact much with the audience. He gave an astonishing performance, as usual, but not much interaction. In my opinion, one of the highlights of the concert was when Oleta and Jon sang a duet together. What a performance! Jon’s voice was forceful and clear. This does not take anything away from Oleta because she was also good. The announcer came out before the show started and requested everyone not to take pictures or videos, being the hardheaded person I am, I did my thing. Unfortunately, I was too far away to affectively record anything good.
After the concert, I do not think anyone conversed with any of the artists. When I left to return to Maryland, I noticed a stretch limo waiting outside. I assumed Jon and the other artists left right after the show.
If someone else attended the show in Philly and got the chance to chat with Jon and took pictures, please send them to the webmaster for posting.

We saw Jon last night at the concert and he rocked!!! we whistled and screamed like crazy for him and he loved it. I had row A center so you know he knew we were there!! not to mention I spoke to him earlier in the day and we Marisa and I went back stage to the green room after the show where he met us. he was so happy that the tour is going great . After about 10-15- minutes Janet and her friend Alice met us back there too- he stayed with us for almost 45 minute total-we took pictures of course special ones for the site and he signed the cds and other things for us. He will be back here in march for his own concerts and work -english album soon to follow he said. WE BRAGGED ABOUT YOUR SITE and took a special picture from him to you!! HE WAS THRILLED TO DO IT and told me to thank you from him for all you do --actually i was trying to get a few things for you for thanks from him but they started to rush him out after a while ---
Marisa and i also bought him a present-it was a leather bracelet with silver on it -he went nuts with it and we will be noticing it on shows -he will not take it off!!! i spoke to him this morning for 20minutes and he again sends all his fans love and thanks and as he told me lastnight infront of janet-he does check the sites on him when he can and is well aware of your and as soon as he gets the chance he will be checking in on it now!!!

It was a magical evening--FANTASTIC performers, great orchestra, very warm and decorated for the holidays. we had a private audience with

did get a chance to met Mr..secada in Wisconsin on dec.13th 2002 and had pictures taken with him , I nearly pissed in my pants that he remember me and my name from a pervious and brief encounter earlier that evening , I remember asking him if he liked my shoes and he did respond to that question , and now looking at the pictures of that evening I'm glad I had my teeth in, because my month was wide open probably because I was excited to be standing next to my idol and you can tell how happy I was to be near him and my nose was red because it was cold and I look kinda fat almost like Santa with out the gray hair if you know what I mean . Miami Beach Parade

Jon Secada will perform on November 6 on Ocean Drive aboard the Red Baron float as part of the national taping of the Miami Beach Parade. The parade will have two tapings: audience must arrive by 9am for the first taping at 12 noon for the second taping. Admission is FREE. The parade runs from 15th to 10th streets. We got home at 3 am and I was exhausted yesterday! The weather was horrendous and it took us SIX hours (instead of 2.5) to get there. we were afraid we would not make the show! Anyway, Jon was FABULOUS!!
Jon and his people had arrived at the casino on Thursday and stayed in the new Mohegan Sun hotel. The show started around 8:20 to a Full house and went till around 10:00pm. The show Seemed longer than last years' show. Jon looked and sounded fantastic! He wore black slacks and a brightly covered shirt. The crowd was familiar with the songs, and sang along. But the floor seats are given to 'high rollers' (big gamblers) and they did not get up and dance or go crazy. Again, Jon thanked Gloria Estefan for giving him his break. Songs included:
"Gloria medley"-Coming Out Of The Dark/Always Tomorrow ,Song Jon gave to Ricky Martin: She's All I Ever Need ,Earth Wind & Fire's-September ,Songs from Better Part of Me: Break The Walls/Stop , Older songs: Mental Picture/Just Another Day/Too Late, Too Soon (closed the show-started out with the ballad version, then went uptempo) ,New songs: Si No Fuera Por Ti//One upbeat heavy percussion song .Jon pulled a woman up on stage again to sing a ballad to her. Jon said that he wrote 'over 50 songs' for the new cd and that he writes songs every day.

After the show, we were able to meet with Jon for some photos and chat. The backup singer, Pat also chatted with us after the show. She is a real sweetheart. She is not on the new cd because she is not fluent in Spanish. She told us Jon had been sick because of the baby. I also mentioned to Jon that he should update the website!! Anyway, our time was up and we kissed Jon goodbye and left very happy and proceeded on our trip back to New York City. As always, Jon was gracious and friendly with his fans. During the show, he stopped a couple of times to accept flowers, acknowledged a "Happy Birthday" sign and even signed an autograph. What a night. I am still in heaven!!!

Some friends and I checked out Jon's show in Ct. I loved every minute. Jon was all over the stage. He also interacted with the audience. The show was magnificent! Plus the Mohegan Sun Casino is a very posh casino. Jon has so much energy he wore me out just watching him, he put on a great show! If he performs again next year at the same place, I will be there!
